Northern Illinois Chapter Everything American Motors Corporation World Clubs |
![]() |
In December 2002, Frank Lanza, Jr. placed an ad in the Rockford Register Star, the local newspaper, inviting anyone interested in starting an AMC club to get together. From this first meeting an interest was sparked, meetings have been held monthly since then. We have established a name, logo, have become a chapter of AMC World Clubs. AMC World Clubs has its roots in northern Illinois, as founder Larry Mitchell started the first successful national club back in 1974, the Classic AMX Club International. In 1970 Larry and Bruce Jacobsen started a local club, American Motors-Sport of Rockford, Illinois. This club was part of a group of clubs including American Motors Car Club of Milwaukee and American Motors Club of Chicago(later evolved into NAMDRA). In 1972, American Motors-Sport of Rockford became a chapter of a club that tried to go national out of California called JAV/AMX. That never materialized but the Rockford club went national in 1974,as CACI. Later, Larry and Don Loper of Janesville, Wisconsin organized American Motors Owners Association (AMO). Our current club has a few of the original members of American Motors-Sport of Rockford, plus a lot more that have became AMCers since the "good old days". We're looking forward to meeting many more new members and friends in the coming years. Stay tuned more to come.... |
